A goal is In Progress, Completed, Unsuccessful or Cancelled. A waypoint is Not Started, In Progress, Completed or Unsuccessful. When you click Log Update on a goal, Equip lists only the waypoints that are In Progress and measured by a question, so a waypoint that is missing from the form has a different status or is measured by a routine. Turn on Auto Complete and Equip moves a waypoint or goal to Completed for you when its target is met.
Who can do this, and where
Statuses are set on the web app, on the goal form (Edit Goal) and the waypoint form (Edit Waypoint). They cannot be changed from the mobile app.
Editing a goal or waypoint needs the Goals module at Supporter or Administrator level, plus access to the participant the goal belongs to.
Log Update on the web needs the same edit access. In the mobile app, a participant can log progress on a goal once the goal's Collaborating toggle is on; the same status rules apply to what they see.
The goal owner's status and progress are visible to Viewers, but Viewers cannot log or edit.
Goals are turned on for your account by the Equip team. If you do not see Goals on a participant's profile, ask us to enable it.
Goal statuses
In Progress: the default for a new goal. The team is working toward it. Log Update and New Waypoint are available.
Completed: the goal was achieved. Once a goal is Completed, the Log Update and New Waypoint buttons disappear on the goal page. Set it back to In Progress to keep logging.
Unsuccessful: the goal was worked on but not achieved.
Cancelled: the goal is no longer being pursued.
The goal's progress percentage is the number of Completed waypoints divided by all of its waypoints, whatever the goal status is.
Waypoint statuses
In Progress: the default when you create a waypoint on the form. The waypoint is active and appears in Log Update if it is measured by a question.
Not Started: planned but not ready to track. It does not appear in Log Update.
Completed: achieved. It leaves Log Update and counts toward the goal's progress percentage.
Unsuccessful: not achieved as planned. It leaves Log Update and does not count as complete.
What appears in Log Update
Log Update shows one section per waypoint that is In Progress and has Measurement Source set to Question. Each section has the question, an optional Comments box and a Mark as Complete toggle. Turning on Mark as Complete and saving sets that waypoint to Completed.
Waypoints measured by a Routine never appear in Log Update. Their progress comes from the participant's routine sessions instead.
How Auto Complete works
On a goal ("Complete goal when all waypoints are completed?"): whenever a waypoint is saved, Equip checks every waypoint on the goal. If all of them are Completed, the goal becomes Completed. A waypoint left at Not Started, In Progress or Unsuccessful stops this from ever happening.
On a Number question waypoint ("Complete waypoint when target is reached?"): after each logged update, Equip compares the value against the waypoint's Target. If the value reaches the target, the waypoint becomes Completed. With Accumulating on, the running total of all updates is compared instead of the latest value. The waypoint needs a Target for this to work.
On a Routine waypoint ("Complete waypoint when target sessions are reached?"): a routine session counts when its score is at least the Completion Threshold (%). When the number of counting sessions reaches Target Sessions, the waypoint becomes Completed. If sessions are later removed and the count drops below the target, the waypoint returns to In Progress. Include Prior Sessions decides whether sessions logged before the waypoint existed count.
Auto Complete only ever sets Completed. It never sets Unsuccessful or Cancelled, and it never reopens a goal.
Limits and gotchas
A waypoint you set to Completed by hand stays out of Log Update until you set it back to In Progress.
Setting a goal to Completed hides Log Update and New Waypoint. Set the goal back to In Progress to continue.
Log Update itself is not offered on a Completed goal, so Mark as Complete cannot be used there either.
A goal with no waypoints shows 0% progress and cannot auto complete, because auto complete only runs when a waypoint is saved.
Short answer, long answer and choice question waypoints do not auto complete. Only Number questions and Routines have a target to compare against.
FAQ
Why is my waypoint missing from Log Update?
Log Update only lists waypoints that are In Progress and measured by a Question. Open the waypoint with Edit Waypoint and check two things: the Status must be In Progress, and the Measurement Source must be Question. A Routine waypoint never appears in Log Update because its progress comes from routine sessions.
Can a goal complete automatically?
Yes. Turn on Auto Complete on the goal ("Complete goal when all waypoints are completed?"). The goal becomes Completed the moment its last waypoint is Completed. If any waypoint is Not Started, In Progress or Unsuccessful, the goal stays as it is.
Can a waypoint complete automatically?
Yes, for two kinds. A Number question waypoint with Auto Complete on becomes Completed when a logged value, or the running total if Accumulating is on, reaches its Target. A Routine waypoint with Auto Complete on becomes Completed when enough sessions score at or above the Completion Threshold to reach Target Sessions.
Should I use Cancelled or Unsuccessful on a goal?
Use Cancelled when the goal is no longer being pursued at all. Use Unsuccessful when the team worked toward it and it was not achieved. Waypoints have no Cancelled status; use Unsuccessful there.
Can I change a status later?
Yes. Open Edit Goal or Edit Waypoint on the goal page, choose a new Status and save. Setting a Completed goal back to In Progress brings back Log Update and New Waypoint.
What does the goal progress percentage count?
Completed waypoints divided by all waypoints on the goal. Unsuccessful and Not Started waypoints count in the total but not as complete, so they lower the percentage.
Can participants change statuses from the mobile app?
No. A participant can view a goal and log progress on it in the app once the goal's Collaborating toggle is on. The app's update has no Mark as Complete option, although a Number waypoint with Auto Complete on can still complete from a logged value. Goal and waypoint statuses themselves are edited on the web.
