Equip’s Mood Navigator helps individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) build emotional awareness and receive timely, personalized support. This guide walks administrators through how to enable the feature across the organization and configure it for individual users.

Proper setup of the Mood Navigator empowers users to manage their emotions more effectively, enhancing the quality and responsiveness of daily support.

🌐 Turn on Mood Navigator Organization-Wide

👤 Enable Mood Navigator for a Specific Participant

To give a participant access to the Mood Navigator, you’ll need to personalize their settings first. This includes customizing mood options, assigning coping strategies, and setting reminders—then enabling the feature.

  • Go to Participants

    • Click Participant in the left-hand menu

    • This opens your Participant Library, where all individuals receiving support are listed

  • Open the Participant’s Profile

    • Locate the participant you want to configure

    • Click their name to open their profile page

  • Edit Profile & Settings

    • In the top right of the participant’s profile, click Edit Profile & Settings

    • This allows you to customize features specific to that individual

  • Navigate to Mood Settings

    • In the left-hand menu of the edit screen, click Mood

    • This is where you’ll configure all Mood Navigator settings for this participant

  • Personalize Mood Options & Coping Strategies

    • Add, rename, or remove mood options to match how the participant expresses emotions

    • For each mood, assign one or more coping strategies that will appear as suggestions when the mood is selected

      • Examples: “Take deep breaths,” “Talk to a supporter,” “Use calming music”

      • Coping strategies can be customized to be visual, text-based, or linked to an external tool

  • Schedule Mood Check-In Reminders

    • Choose when and how often the participant should be prompted to check in with their mood

    • You can schedule reminders for specific times of day (e.g., morning, after class, evening)

    • These reminders will prompt the participant to log how they’re feeling

  • Toggle Mood Navigator ON

    • Once moods, strategies, and reminders are set, toggle Enable Mood Navigator to ON

  • Click Save at the bottom to apply all changes

Equip Tip: The Mood Navigator isn’t just a tool—it’s a daily emotional check-in that helps participants build self-awareness and communicate how they’re really doing. The more personalized the moods and coping strategies, the more meaningful the experience becomes—for both the participant and their supporters.
