Save & Finish Later for Forms

Learn how to save partially completed form responses and come back to finish them later.

You can now save a partially completed form response and come back to finish it later. This is useful for long forms, forms that require information you don't have on hand, or any situation where you need to step away before completing a response.

πŸ“„ How It Works

  1. Open a form and begin filling out your response.

  2. When you need to stop, click Save & Finish Later at the bottom of the form (next to Submit Response).

  3. Your answers are saved and the response is stored with an In Progress status.

  4. When you're ready to continue, find the form in your form list and open your saved response.

  5. Complete the remaining fields and click Submit Response to finalize it.

βš™οΈ Key Details

  • Required fields are skipped when saving. You can save a partial response even if required fields are incomplete. Required field validation only runs when you click Submit Response.

  • Responder name and email are optional while in progress. These are only required on final submission.

  • Signatures are not required until final submission. If the form requires a signature, you can save without signing β€” the signature is only validated when you submit.

  • Notifications and documents are not generated until submission. Approval subscribers, form subscribers, and PDF document generation only trigger when the response is fully submitted β€” not when saved as in progress.

  • Available for signed-in users only. The Save & Finish Later button is only available to logged-in Equip users. External respondents filling out a form via an invitation link will not see this option.

  • Works with approval workflows. If the form requires approval, submitting a previously saved response will set the status to Awaiting Approval as expected.

βœ… Benefits

  • No lost work β€” Save your progress instead of losing it if you need to navigate away or close the browser.

  • Complete forms at your own pace β€” Especially useful for long forms that require gathering information from multiple sources.

  • No premature notifications β€” Saving a partial response won't trigger notifications to subscribers or approvers until you're ready to submit.

πŸ’‘ Best Practices

  • Use Save & Finish Later for lengthy forms. If you know a form will take time to complete, save your progress periodically.

  • Remember to come back and submit. In-progress responses won't be reviewed or processed until you click Submit Response.

  • Check your form list for saved responses. In-progress responses appear in your form response list so you can easily find and resume them.

❓ FAQs

Where do I find my saved responses?
Saved in-progress responses appear in the form's response list. Open the form and look for your response with an In Progress status.

Can I save multiple times before submitting?
Yes. You can save, come back, make more edits, and save again as many times as you need before submitting.

Will my approver see in-progress responses?
No. Approvers are only notified and can review responses after you click Submit Response.

Can external respondents use Save & Finish Later?
No. This feature is only available to signed-in Equip users. External respondents who access a form via an invitation link must complete and submit it in one session.

Does this work for document-type forms?
Yes. Save & Finish Later works for both custom forms and document-type forms. PDF document generation is deferred until final submission.

What happens if a saved response is on a form that requires approval?
When you submit the response, it will automatically be set to Awaiting Approval and approvers will be notified β€” just like a normal submission.
